Liposuction and Fat Grafting

The Procedure:

Fat grafting is commonly performed alongside liposuction to achieve optimal and more natural results. The two procedures complement one another. Liposuction removes fat from specific areas of the body or the face through small incisions, later, this fat is purified and then transferred to other areas in the body to restore volume. This process is called fat grafting or fat transfer.

Advanced Techniques in Liposuction have made fat removal and body sculpting procedures much easier and minimally invasive. It has also allowed physicians to remove resilient fat on smaller and more sensitive areas like the cheeks, chin, and neck. Liposuction can also treat thighs, hips, and buttocks, abdomen and waist, upper arms, back, inner knee, chest area, calves, and ankles

Fat grafting is also a corrective treatment used for patients that have undergone a mastectomy or who suffer the results of a failed or botched surgery. It is also used for other corrective purposes in the treatment of wrinkles, dents, irregularities and give a plump look in areas like the eyelids, cheeks, and lips.

Liposuction is an ideal choice for people looking to contour their body and to those that have lost weight through surgery, or dieting and exercise, and now want to get rid of the resilient extra fat. However, It’s still necessary for you to seek consultation from an experienced plastic or cosmetic surgeon before deciding on liposuction. Your physician must look into specific factors of which are lifestyle, medical history, weight, type of skin and patient needs before operating.

Results are particular to every case though most patients see final results 6 months after liposuction and retain 50% to 70% of the transferred fat. After surgery, your body will continue to react normally to weight changes, so it’s advised to maintain a healthy post-surgery lifestyle for long-lasting results.

Recovery time can vary depending on the area operated on and the quantity of fat that was removed and/or transferred. In the case of body liposuction, doctors usually recommend a week for recovery and urge patients to move around starting day one. Garments are also prescribed for patients to wear over the treated area, to help reduce post-surgery swelling and to maintain their new contoured shape.

Each surgeon has his own treatment protocol, so it’s always best to consult and ask your personal physicians about any questions you have.
